How to Choose the Right Tag or Plate
A practical guide to selecting the right material and marking method for your environment and application.
1. Start with the Environment
- Indoor, low‑wear: Acrylic, laminates, or vinyl labels.
- Industrial or high‑traffic: Polycarbonate, laminates, or anodized aluminum.
- Outdoor or harsh: Stainless steel or anodized aluminum.
- Specialized or extreme: Titanium or engineered materials.
2. Consider How It Will Be Read
- Close‑up reading: Smaller text and detailed graphics are fine.
- Distance viewing: Larger text, high contrast, simple layouts.
- Scannable codes: Laser engraving or high‑resolution UV printing.
3. Choose the Marking Method
- Laser engraving: Fine detail, permanent, great for metals and plastics.
- Rotary engraving: Deep, tactile marks for long‑term legibility.
- UV printing: Full‑color graphics and icons.
- Vinyl cutting: High‑contrast labels and graphics.
4. Think About Installation
- Pre‑drilled holes for mechanical fastening
- Adhesive‑backed for smooth surfaces
- Chains or rings for valve tags
- Custom shapes for tight spaces or specific equipment
