How to Choose the Right Tag or Plate

A practical guide to selecting the right material and marking method for your environment and application.

1. Start with the Environment

  • Indoor, low‑wear: Acrylic, laminates, or vinyl labels.
  • Industrial or high‑traffic: Polycarbonate, laminates, or anodized aluminum.
  • Outdoor or harsh: Stainless steel or anodized aluminum.
  • Specialized or extreme: Titanium or engineered materials.

2. Consider How It Will Be Read

  • Close‑up reading: Smaller text and detailed graphics are fine.
  • Distance viewing: Larger text, high contrast, simple layouts.
  • Scannable codes: Laser engraving or high‑resolution UV printing.

3. Choose the Marking Method

  • Laser engraving: Fine detail, permanent, great for metals and plastics.
  • Rotary engraving: Deep, tactile marks for long‑term legibility.
  • UV printing: Full‑color graphics and icons.
  • Vinyl cutting: High‑contrast labels and graphics.

4. Think About Installation

  • Pre‑drilled holes for mechanical fastening
  • Adhesive‑backed for smooth surfaces
  • Chains or rings for valve tags
  • Custom shapes for tight spaces or specific equipment
